Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Logo

We take pride in the iwi logo. When we see it, we are proud to be Ngāti Kahungunu.

Background

The Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Logo was created by a young man named Hayden Priest. The iwi held a competitiion where young Kahungunu designers could submit their designs which were judged by iwi leaders and eventually one was chosen. This design and the kaupapa that was presented was well received by our iwi leaders and kaumātua. We acknowledge Hayden who at the time was 12 years old.

Kaupapa

The Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated Logo is represented by two koru. The left koru represents our ancestors and our elderly, maturity, wisdom and respect. It is slightly leaning over as time goes on,

The koru on the right represents the firm stance of rangatahi, strength, honour, commitment, dedication, willing to submit to the legacy of the elders, proud to be of Ngāti Kahungunu descent.

The Kaumātua koru overlaps and leans towards the rangatahi koru giving knowledge, strength, courage, leadership and history to all rangatahi of the iwi.

The colour and shape of the logo symbolises the paua known throughout Aotearoa as one of Ngāti Kahungunu’s richest resourses.
