The Director Role for Te Reo, Tikanga & Mātauranga is currently vacant. The last Director in this role was Jeremy Tātere Macleod who finished working with the iwi in December 2023 to take up full time mahi with Kauwaka, which was established by Jeremy in 2020 as a vehicle to contribute to the language and cultural revitalisation efforts within Ngāti Kahungunu. Kauwaka delivers services across Aotearoa. In the future Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated will strengthen its relationship with Kauwaka and other organisations that share in the mahi to revitalise Ngāti Kahungunu reo. I am a Ministry of Education employee that has been seconded to NKII (Directorate of Te Reo, Tikanga and Mātauranga) on a part-time basis. My brief for the secondment entails;
1. Being the point-of-contact for NKII on educational matters.
2. Report on Māori education in the rohe whānui of Ngāti Kahungunu.
3. Update the NKII mātauranga strategy and plan.
4. Facilitate the implementation of the strategy and plan.
